Amistad 3 Report

Coming Up!!!!

Amistad is at full pool!  The water level had been rising almost a foot a day for a couple of weeks, due to flooding in Mexico.  (The situtation is a lot more complicated, but that is the easy version, If you want a complicated version of what is going on check out www.swtexaslive.com/node/7629).  With water coming up so fast, the fish were spread out and very finicky, but everyone seemed to catch some fish and had a great time with 4 guests and a whole bunch of members present.  Sandra and Michelle even took that fancy silver Bass Cat all the way to the "Big Friendly" to try and find some of those tight-mouthed bass.  Amistad always "fishes big" but at full pool there was no shortage of fishing places, with RBC members spread out from San Pedro to Zueber Bend it was tough for anyone to really find a pattern.  The pattern seemed to be just cover water and fish, fish, fish.

Matt Houston took first place with a 2 day weight of just under 20 lbs.  Shawn Carusella was 2nd with 18 lbs, Chris Lackey was 3rd with 15.30lbs, Ron Carter was 4th with 13.80 lbs, Greg Westall was 5th with 12.69 lbs, and Earl Lackey was 6th with 9.89 lbs.  The standings for the year are similar to the results of this tournament with Matt Houston leading in the overall points and Shawn Carusella right behind him.  With 3 events left it is shaping up for an interesting finish.

The water is not the only thing "Coming Up" at Amistad for Rebel.  We look to defend our City Championship (won in '07 at Falcon Lake) on October 11, 12.  Although there were not a lot of fish caught this weekend, one might almost guess that many of the anglers were more interested in finding patters that may lead to an overall club win, rather than just a win at this tournament.  Some anglers (defending METRO Tournament of Champions winner Ron Carter comes to mind) seemed to find some things late Sunday that could propel Rebel to it's second straight City Championship.  It should be interesting to see what the lake does in 2 weeks.

Stay tuned...................
